5.0 out of 5 stars There and Back: A Journalists long row of Candles., July 27, 2012
By Don North (Fairfax,, VA USA)
This review is from: There and Back: Commentary by a Former Foreign Correspondent (Hardcover)
Winston Churchill once wrote, "The longer you look back, the farther you can look forward."
It's a lesson former Foreign Correspondent Barrie
Dunsmore takes to heart in writing "There and Back." It took him thirty years of globe trotting
and interviewing world leaders to gain his unique
perspective of our world, but he uses it wisely in
crafting his columns on today's issues.

From 1965-1995 Dunsmore often put himself in harms way to keep ABC News competitive.
Wether it was escaping Danang as North Vietnamese
troops closed in or claiming the first U.S. TV
interview with Egypt's Sadat, Dunsmore reported the news with clarity and context.

Full disclosure: Dunsmore and I both worked for
ABC News, having been recruted from Canada by the
anchor Peter Jennings.

History has a real significance in the present and
Dunsmore proves this by viewing today's news through the prism of his past experience.

"There and Back" is a must read for any aspiring
journalist and for news buffs who appreciate a
liberal journalists balanced views on today's
international and domestic issues.
